Book Review: Lola Carlyle Reveals All by Rachel Gibson

“If a person gains any sort of notoriety, for any reason, there are people who want to use you to get their face in the media. To get attention. They don’t like you; they just want to be seen with you.” ~~ Rachel Gibson (Book: Lola Carlyle Reveals All)

This book has been calling me for a while. Maybe over a year, but I managed to stay away. 😀

Nothing against the book I barely knew anything about it. But I had everything against the cover. Now the cover art is fine under the normal circumstances — read when the book is either brand new or was handled by few with care.

This one looked battered and bruised! And I kept thinking it’d photograph even worse with its condition. It did!

So I downloaded the Kindle sample – the Black & white picture is better than a horrible looking image of a battered book.

Still, I thought it’s time to look past the appearances and read it. 😀

Let’s find out more about ‘Lola Carlyle Reveals All ~~ Rachel Gibson’…

Genre: Contemporary Romance.

Main Characters: Lola Carlyle,

Lola Carlyle Reveals All by Rachel Gibson’ ~~ Synopsis:

Once upon a time ago, Lola’s a famous underwear model. These days whenever she lands in the press, it’s for her weight issues. She no longer cares about their name calling. Maintaining a healthy weight, not slipping back into the eating disorder that almost killer her matters more to her.

She’s moved away from the life of almost always striving to get thinner underwear model to a businesswoman who runs her own lingerie business.

She’s not seen much in the tabloids anymore. But if someone really wants to see her, they could pay her ex for the privilege of seeing some of her embarrassing photographs on his websites.

This is what stresses Lola these days; the helplessness of not being able to do anything about the photographs.

She did try to get her ex to pull the plug on the website, but the court sided with him.

So the next best thing, Lola could do was take a vacation, relax and maybe come up with a plan to get the photographs back. Life begins to look good again when the unplanned happens and she gets kidnapped.

Max is a secret agent. He’s running for his life, after a mission gone horribly wrong. He sees a private yacht and decides to commandeer it to get out alive.

No one seemed to be on board when he checked, but just his bad luck, a woman with tiny dog called Baby Doll, has appeared out of nowhere. She wants to know who he’s and what he is doing.

All Max wants is to not entangle a civilian into the mess. But it seems he does not have a choice. The woman, who looks like a model he once saw on a hoarding, isn’t listening to anything he tells her.

Nor she seems to believe that he works for the government and she’d be fine if she stopped trying to kill him. Starting with not blowing up the ship or forcing him to tie her up to keep her out of his way or give him some more injuries to hasten his death.

All he needs for a while is some sleep. Afterwards he’d think about what how best to handle the ex-model and her crazy dog.

Lola’s planning to get out of the yacht when she fell asleep. But that was okay as the yacht belongs to her friends, there’s no rush to get anywhere.

When she wakes up, she finds some strange beaten-up man driving the yacht away from the harbor. He insists that he’s not a bad guy. But Lola isn’t falling for his lies.

So she decides to fight for her and Baby Doll’s life and blows up the ship and they get stranded in the middle of the ocean.

All of a sudden there’s no reason not to make peace with her situation and share the space with the stranger.

Review:

Not getting the book, only because of the cover, was a bad idea. It’s a funny story. I liked Lola & Max’s characters.

The way it’s all tied up in the end did bother me a little. I mean, why so much time is spent on the ship and not developing Lola & Max relationship once they are out of danger. It all seems rushed in the end.

Their shipwreck journey should have ended around 50-60 percent.

Anyway, if you’re looking for a light, fun weekend read, then ‘Lola Carlyle Reveals All’ is a good candidate.
